De term kan misleidend zijn wanneer hij letterlijk wordt ge\u00efnterpreteerd als alleen een daling van het aantal stamcellen.<\/p>\n<h2>Humane hematopo\u00ebtische stamcellen<\/h2>\n<p>In menselijk beenmerg kunnen fenotypisch gedefinieerde hematopo\u00ebtische stamcellen met leeftijd relatief toenemen, terwijl hun differentiatiepatroon en functionele eigenschappen veranderen. Er is onder andere een verschuiving richting myelo\u00efde cellijnen beschreven.<\/p>\n<h2>Moleculaire veranderingen<\/h2>\n<p>Humane studies vinden leeftijdsgerelateerde epigenetische en transcriptionele veranderingen in hematopo\u00ebtische stamcellen. Zulke veranderingen kunnen samenhangen met veranderde regeneratieve functie en klonale hematopo\u00ebse.<\/p>\n<h2>Andere weefsels<\/h2>\n<p>Veroudering van stam- en voorlopercellen verschilt per orgaan. Bevindingen uit beenmerg kunnen daarom niet direct worden vertaald naar huid, spier, darm of hersenen.<\/p>\n<h2>Kan een peptide stamcellen \u201cverjongen\u201d?<\/h2>\n<p>Voor zo\u2019n claim zijn directe humane studies nodig waarin stamcelfunctie en relevante klinische uitkomsten worden gemeten. Een cel- of dierexperiment is daarvoor onvoldoende.<\/p>\n<h2>Conclusie<\/h2>\n<p>Stamcelveroudering is een verandering van aantallen, functionele capaciteit, lineage-balans en micro-omgeving.
